Tours to the birding hotspots of South West Ireland.
South West Ireland is a large area with a low population and very few active birders living here. Finding your own birds is the norm, and local knowledge is vital for anyone new to the region. Some places are well known such as Cape Clear, but valuable time is easily wasted by birders new to the area 'just looking round.' (not that there are many) In many ways birding in West Cork is reminicent of the 'good old days' before the internet, birdlines and mobile phones.
Autumn, as usual, is the time for rare finds and these usualy occur on the headlands. Summer is the time for seabirds, whilst Spring gives a good chance of unusual birds in great souroundings.Winter is the time for wintering waders, wildfowl and gulls.
I offer guided trips to the main birding areas.
A pick up/delivery service from Cork airport, so no need to hire a car.
Pelagic birding trips
For those birders who want to hire me for a day or days only, I can devise a trip based on your requirements, weather, tides and local rarities.
COSTS depend on the number of people in the party. My basic charge is euro100 per seven hour day, plus euro20 per l person. This cost includes car transport. If birding outside West Cork I charge petrol money and any additional expences.
TERMS 20% of cost at time of booking payable by cheque or bank transfer in your own currency- remainder payable at time of visit in euro.
For short notice bookings I accept cash in euro.
N.B. I am very flexable, and although I am based in West Cork, I can arrange birding to suit any requirements, including a complete birding vacation or short break, covering any district of Ireland, staying at any standard of accommodation, for up to ten people, and will be able to quote a firm cost based on your instructions.
